About the Brand

Sinful Sweets was started in August 2025 by Cynthia Hsia, a California native and San Diego county resident since 2018. Cynthia has been an avid cook since 2012 and started baking in 2016. She is completely self-taught and loves picking up tips and recipes from fellow baker friends.

Cynthia started becoming known for her baked goods, but especially cookies, when she started bringing in batches to work and parties just for fun. After lots of nudging from friends, she finally decided to bring the business to life. The name Sinful Sweets was born from her love of all things bold, rebellious, and against the norm. Inspired by her leatherworking brand (Luci Leather Goods) and motorcycle (Lucy), both named after Lucifer, Sinful Sweets stays on theme.

Cynthia is a data analyst by trade, having worked in the automotive industry and the sustainable seafood world. She received her B.S. in Decision Science from Carnegie Mellon University and her MAS in Marine Biodiversity & Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. She is a part-time sushi chef at Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub and part-time chef at Matsu. Having baked the cookies for the dessert menu at Wrench & Rodent, Cynthia has had the benefit of R&D for over 2 years. Although she loves playing around with fun new recipes, she can't deny a classic flavor done right.

In her spare time, you can find Cynthia training jiu jitsu, riding her motorcycle, leatherworking, weightlifting, or playing with her pit bull pup, Harley.
